First half Amsterdam, second half HamburgMarch 19th, 2012 by Nasty
Last Saturday, ADD took it up against the Harbor Girls Hamburg and lost 161-87, a score that was almost even at half time, with ADD in the lead. The Harbor Girls dealt some big hits as did ADD, and the people in the suicide seats got more thrills and spills than they bargained for. As we like to say, it was AWESOME!
Strategies and tactics were changed on the fly especially in the second half to counter the new found oomph the Harbor Girls mustered up at half time. Some of our girls were playing their first bout with ADD and should be very proud of themselves, so congratulations to you!
St Patrick’s Day didn’t go unnoticed either, as a group of men in beer hats got quite rowdy with banners and some confetti, which had to be cleaned up before the bout started. No more confetti at bouts, please!
And what do you do when a lot of official timeouts are being called? You shake your booty on the track to the DJ’s music, which was playing throughout the bout, another first for ADD.
Since there’s no continental European handbook on cheering roller derby, the local men went with what they know: a Hamburg supporter ran around the track with a big flag, and to make sure he got enough attention, he turned into a streaker.
The entire bout was nail-bitingly exciting, the audience cheered on their home team with cries of ‘AHOI!’ and a big derby high was had by all. See you all at the next bout!
